Day 16 - in which we pay a visit to our friend Anne (with an "e")

Not sure how many of you will have already guessed where we spent our time today, but for the uninitiated, we went to Green Gables, home of Anne Shirley.


We've all listened enthralled to the audio book as we've travelled around, and it's been a wonderful way to pass the time. Anne is such a great character, and Lucy Maud Montgomery's descriptions of the PEI landscape are simply beautiful; it has been a pleasure for all of us to listen to this Canadian classic.


So it was with considerable anticipation that we ventured to Green Gables, which is a National Historic site within the National Park. Fortunately, it didn't disappoint:

William and Kate will be visiting here in July - apparently Kate insisted, as it was a favourite book when she was a child. (Canada is agog at the prospect of the royal visit, being much more staunch in their love and support of the royals then we are.)


Of course, this being the Maritimes, there are also fishing villages aplenty:

The skies continue to be grey, and the weather is a bit colder than we've had in the last few weeks (and we note that Ottawa is enjoying temperatures in the high 20s while we shiver in the low to mid teens), but nothing can detract from the sheer loveliness of the place. More pics tomorrow...
