Fall is upon us

We are well and truly into "Fall" here, though it did creep up and catch us unawares for a few days.  The colours are gorgeous.

The streets all look like this:

and just over the Ottawa river in Quebec is Gatineau Park, where we went for the day on Sunday:

Lunch was in a small town, where we were lucky enough to see the back of a steam train chug through the middle of town before continuing around the edge of the lake.

Butter wouldn't melt....

It was a clear and lovely day, but COLD.  The temperature has really dropped: the average high temp for September is 20 degrees, and only 12 for October.  We heard the forecast refer to "plus 5" the other day for the first time.  Yikes, you know it's getting colder when they need to differentiate above zero temperatures from below!

Maybe "cooking from scratch" means opening the can with your teeth, just to increase the degre of difficulty. I say well done Martha!
